Gayden and Mike

February 20th

A crisp late September day, I received a call at the studio asking if we could help with a wedding that was going to be on October 15th last fall.  What two weeks? Well, I answered that I’d do my best to help. The wedding planner, who lived in Texas, was helping her good friend’s daughter with her wedding in Alexandria. The planner realized that it was going to be too difficult to prepare all of the floral decor herself and had been referred to us from a friend in the Northern Virginia area!

So after a busy weekend, Sunday night I took her concepts, colors, and ideas and produced a proposal to the planner and the family on Monday morning. A quick turnaround and by Tuesday morning the floral order was placed so that we would get the flowers in the following week in time to open and be perfect for the wedding day!

The week of the wedding, we managed to handle two other weddings along with Gayden and Mike’s wedding celebration! When the mother of the bride and the planner flew in on Thursday before the wedding, they came to the studio with Gayden so we could all meet for the first time! Gayden brought her grandmother’s tussie mussie for us to create the bridal bouquet nosegay and a family heirloom thimble for good luck to incorporate into her bouquet.

The church decor was simple and perfect for the historic Christ Church in Old Town Alexandria.

The Belle Haven Country Club provided a perfect backdrop for a night of celebration!

Most of all, I want to thank Eva Russo of Photo Lady Love for the fantastic photos! She captured the beauty of the day.

Congratulations Gayden and Mike! We felt honored to participate in their special day.

Jan’s Home Event

February 13th

A few months ago, Jan (a client and dear friend of mine) started chatting with me about a dinner party she wanted to have for her daughter, Paige, before her winter ball at Bishop Ireton High School. Heather and I were so excited to go and see everything she had collected, so we figured out a time to meet at her house near Old Town Alexandria last month. We gathered the vessels that she wanted to use (she had such great stuff!) and later she brought them to the studio.

We just love the mercury glass and the white milk glass. Jan had been gathering lots of great decor items to add around the house, so we took a look at them and decided what would look best to complete the look for the winter theme!

Melanie and I worked on what white flowers would go well with her theme minus fragrance as she is allergic to some flowers. The mantle was adorned with a classic mix of hydrangeas and white roses. And the dining room table was graced with a collection down the middle of hydrangeas with maidenhair fern in the milk glass and the shorts of roses and miniature calla lilies. Her cocktail table in the living room had a perfect little julep of a single rose next to a mercury glass pedestal dish filled with white tulips. We couldn’t have been happier to help out with her last decor touches to add to the ambiance she was creating for her daughter. She has such great style and her home is truly something out of a magazine. Jan, we love your look!

Styled Photo Shoot with SoftBox Media Photography

February 9th

In October, we had the pleasure of providing floral designs for SoftBox Media’s styled shoot at Murray Hill in Leesburg, Virginia.

We jumped at the chance to work with Lisa and Ian! Working together to provide the utmost in cutting edge photography for weddings, Lisa and Ian are a dream to work with. They worked with two other florists to get the most variety in the shoot. Mangan Jewelers provided the jewelry that was outstanding and really added to the look in some of the photographs.

As you can see the setting there at Murray Hill is just gorgeous! This really gives you a perfect look at the high impact photo ops that are on site.

We designed three bouquets:

Classic English Garden Bouquet of White Roses, Arabicum, and Green Trick Dianthus

Crescent Bouquet of Vibrant Colors

Lisa and Ian called the bouquet above “The Firecracker Bouquet”. Definitely a beauty with the wand-like handle. Perfect for the autumnal wedding!

Contemporary Bouquet boasting a Feather Collar with Roses and Brooches

We love the use of feathers! Incorporating the feathers in the bouquet and also as a collar really made the design. Also, brooches are a hot new trend of which this bouquet sported three! Geraldine roses and light pink nerine lilies with hints of green foliages show off this design.

We loved the opportunity to make boutonnieres for the shoot as well.

Miniature Calla Lily Boutonniere with Accents of Scabiosa and Miniature Spray Rose

White Rose Boutonniere with Arabicum and Green Trick Accent

Geraldine Rose Boutonniere with Feather Accent

Thanks, Lisa and Ian! We loved providing designs for you.

Love is in the air, but we don’t pick our prices out of the air!

February 6th

It’s a new year and the wedding season is upon us. We have been busy with consultations in-between our event schedule. Sometimes I know that potential clients hesitate to contact us because they automatically assume we will be too expensive. Many of you (brides) have called looking to book some time to sit down with us and chat about your dream wedding in Northern Virginia or Washingon DC (and even Maryland)! But, of late, Heather and I have been asked one big question: “Do we have a minimum that we charge for wedding flowers?” The answer is NO.

Each wedding is unique to every couple and so are their needs. Some may have a large affair with over 400 guests; others, well, they may only have an intimate ceremony and reception for immediate family. Sometimes, you don’t need Bergerons to provide everything, i.e. just the bridal party flowers or just some ceremony decor.

From the wedding standpoint, we offer a wedding floral calculator on our website that can be downloaded and used to figure out a floral budget anywhere from inexpensive to grand! We may be expensive to some, but I stand by our motto of “sophistication, hand-delivered“. What does that mean to you? It means that our designs are original and made from scratch daily! No, we aren’t talking food, but we are talking about perishable products.

It does cost more to do this type of work since you wouldn’t just be renting elements that get passed off from client to client, week to week. We do offer some pieces that clients often return after their event, i.e. glassware, pedestals, etc. These items are paid for in the invoice, and we gladly will take them back if they are in pristine condition. We charge a re-stocking fee and the rest gets refunded per piece. I find that most are very happy to see that some monies come back to them after their event!

Most clients especially brides don’t have any idea how much their dream wedding will actually cost, so we are here to educate you from the floral design standpoint. We know that you want your event to be a reflection of you and that is our goal and promise to you as well! This is a service business and we consider it a privilege to give you the experience of a lifetime.

What we can promise is accessibility, originality, fun and honesty. If we make a mistake (and I’ve haven’t found anyone yet that doesn’t), we will own up to it and most importantly, fix it the best way we can.

Event using Orchids, Roses and Succulents

January 25th

One of our favorite parties for 2011 was a home celebration that was catered by R&R. We designed a larger buffet station piece and two different cocktail table doodahs. I personally love the gold wire details and the use of succulents!
